I used to go to the Shed in its previous life. Then, it was a bit of a sweaty hole. You’d stick to the floor and cautiously drink the beer so that you didn’t need to make too much use of the basic toilet provision. I had some great times there watching many awesome bands. On reflection, the surroundings probably didn’t enhance the experience.
The Shed, under new management, is now a completely different proposition. It’s been sympathetically renovated but classically so. A fine gig venue that’s always looking to do something a little different in Leicester, I plan to head there more frequently over the next few months.
The Meadowlark gig is likely to be a good one. Since I last featured them, this Bristol act have developed considerably. Their first album has been released and has elicited glowing reviews since doing so. Daniel Broadley, one half of this duo, is also an acclaimed video maker.
It was earlier this year that I saw the wonderfully moving and revealing ‘Postcards’ video from Meadowlark. The band had asked their fans to send in anonymised secrets on postcards so that they might be used in the shooting of this powerful break-up song.
Recent release, Sunlight, has also been creating a bit of a stir. Two characters in Donald Trump masks behave in ways you mightn’t expect ; it’s lurid, funny and ultimately disturbing (though I’m not sure why it makes me feel that way). The tune itself is another gem from the Meadowlark stable.
Wednesday night at the Shed should be lots of fun. I’ll see you there.
